If you are copying your numbers from September into October and you don't have enough cash to cover it then you're creating overspending. YNAB wants you to budget money you already have, not money you expect to get. To YNAB, "budget" means to put money into those envelopes. It is simulating a situation where you cash your paycheck and distribute that cash into envelopes labeled "Rent", "Groceries", etc., and then you will spend out of those envelopes as needed. I copy all the previous month's budgeted values to the next month (ie: I already have my baseline in spetember right now, and on sept 1 I will copy it into october).ĭo you actually have enough money to do this? I assume this is because the new version doesn't let me choose the month income applies to like ynab4. Instead of returning it to "available" it is applying it to "budgeted in the future" when I wipe both categories so I have to pull out the calculator and do the math by hand before I wipe either category. Unfortunately in the new version this isn't working quite the same. Whatever was left was in "available to budget" and I'd put it into dining. Then I'd put the total in pet to zero it out. I don't touch my emergency fund in savings unless I can't shuffle money between categories to handle a bill. So I'm shuffling unspent money (from dining where I've got a bunch of saved up money) into the pet category. This month I've got a big vet bill for my dog's bad knee. As I get close to the end of the month, sometimes I have to shuffle money from one category to another. I do this before the current month starts so I have the same baseline each month, and then I tweak from there. My budgeting workflow starts on the first of the month when I copy all the previous month's budgeted values to the next month (ie: I already have my baseline in spetember right now, and on sept 1 I will copy it into october). The "Budgeted in Future" is already driving me nuts. I finally moved from ynab4 to the new version very recently. #Ynab budgeting future mods#If you see posts or comments that do not belong, please report them and message the mods.Search the subreddit first to see if someone has already asked your question before posting.Off topic comments, attacks or insults will not be tolerated.
